About Us
Predator Free Pāuanui is a community group dedicated to eradicating introduced predator species across Pāuanui. Our kaupapa is to create a predator free environment that enables our native and endemic species to thrive — across around 579 hectares of land at Pāuanui.
Pāuanui is home to a large variety of rare and endangered species. Introduced predators are one of the main threats to their survival — some of our native species would go extinct in just two human generations without predator control. Many parts of the country have already proven that when we remove predators, nature comes back. We need to shift from suppressing predators to eradicating them.
We are part of the wider Predator Free 2050 initiative — a national goal to eliminate introduced mammalian predators from all of New Zealand by 2050, because many of our species are found nowhere else in the world and are in serious trouble.

What We Do
Trap & Monitor
We maintain a network of traps across Pāuanui, checked and reset regularly by our volunteers.
Record & Report
We track all catches and monitor wildlife sightings to build a picture of how nature is recovering over time.
Educate & Engage
We work with residents, schools, and visitors to build awareness and grow our community of supporters.
